Uma’s Party Plan: Gelato Social

Ice cream socials have been all the rage. Here I am dreaming of a sophisticated gelato version, styled after the patinas of italy.

  • Gelato: chocolate, chocolate chip, hazelnut, pistachio
  • Toppings: fresh berries, nuts, dark chocolate chips, sprinkles, biscotti, sauces and syrups, fresh whipped cream
  • Cannoli
  • Prosecco and Sorbet Floats
  • Espresso
  • San Pellegrino

1. Lovely gelato cone against a rustic painted wall.  2. The breakfast buffet at Hotel Brunelleschi in Florence inspires thoughts of a tablescape that combines Tuscan influence with some mod Italian styling thrown in.  3. Silver and glass are the perfect serveware options for gelato and toppings. A dark background lends some drama.  4. Style invitations and decorations after these faded Italian posters.

Shop Talk: Green Tea and Honey Table

Jill and I went shopping this week looking for a new table setting for our window display. For months I’ve been wanting to create something from one of my Spring/Summer dreamboards called Green Tea and Honey. When I saw the super cute, embroidered dark green runner from Crate and Barrel I knew I had my starting point! I coordinated with these bright green napkins. From there we found these sweet bowls and glasses at Anthropologie. The white china with yellow gold rim was a total steal at Macy’s home department. We used the dark green Samoa plates from Crate and Barrel as chargers under the whole setting. The gold flatware is from West Elm. We made the flower arrangement from summer blooms from Trader Joe’s!

I love to mix formal and dressy pieces from a variety of sources to get a truly unique, custom table look. This setting shows just how affordable elegant style can be. Shop using the links below!

Room Design: Essential Pieces for the Bedroom

1/ The first essential is a bed, of course! This beautiful leather upholstered bed makes a strong focal point in a bedroom. I like how it incorporates both masculine and feminine styling in one piece.

2/ A dreamy piece of wall art gives your eyes something to rest on when relaxing in the room. I found this piece on 1st dibs, and I love how it mimics the feeling of lying on my bed and staring out the window at treetops and sky.

3/ A soft rug makes for a soft landing when taking those first sleepy steps out of bed. This Moroccan antique carpet is another 1st dibs find. The uneven stripe pattern gives an earthy, natural feel, and the color palette is very interesting on this one-of-a-kind piece.

4/ A nightstand is a key bedroom essential and a place where you can make a real style statement. This side table features a weathered finish and geometric patterning. It complements the bed without matching it.

5/ Great lamps really give personality to a bedroom. I love this antique brass one from Thomas O’Brien. Like several of the pieces here, it has that modern classic vibe.

6/ I have a thing for decorative boxes. I love them. Keeping one by the bedside provides a handy place to tuck rings, watches, earrings and other items that need stashing before getting a good night’s sleep. This Madeline Weinrib ikat box gives some additional pattern to the room.

7/ A little bud vase in the bedroom is such an easy luxury. This deep red piece is very sculptural, and the bulbous shape and bright color provide a small point of contrast to the  clean lines and subdued color palette in the rest of these pieces. Little details like this make a room sing with individuality.

Interior Inspirations: Artistic Tailoring

I came across this beautiful bedroom today when my web surfing led me to Lonny Magazine. I couldn’t resist posting it because it so perfectly mirrored the Dior picture that inspired today’s Outfit of the Week. Don’t you agree? Both the outfit and the room are exquisitely tailored, but there are details that have a looser, artsy feeling to them too. I’m experiencing design love in both cases!

Outfit of the Week: Channelling Dior

This look from CHRISTIAN DIOR would be impossible to replicate, but we can tap the vibe with a few key pieces: 1. There are several jackets out this season that blend wool with leather, but this one from Burberry Brit caught my eye because of all the little styling details that make it more special. 2. I absolutely adore the gorgeous flowy silk of the Dior skirt with the midi length. This silk skirt in pale green from Anthropologie maintains the length and has the same softness of color tone. 3. Pumps with an ankle strap will be a big trend this fall.  These ash grey ones by Sofft should be super comfy and the color is very nice, matching the shade of the Dior shoe.
