It is finally feeling like the right weather for tweed and boots. The whole fall look gets a fresh take here with the addition of a striped pencil skirt (LOVE), and printed scarf with dotted sweater tights. Add in the lace up boots and the rich suede and leather bag for classics with an updated feeling. You’ll be fall ready.

Happy Monday! If you live in the Northeast, like me, you are probably stocked up and waiting for the big storm to come in. I am home today and the studio is as secured as we could get it. We have coolers, rations, extra flashlights all on hand. Given the storms of last year, we know that multiple days of no power is no fun. It’s much more enjoyable to look at rustic than it is to live rustic, right?! Today’s inspiration board started with the lovely hues in the pumpkins, and spread out from there to images that captured country details that still manage to have a bit of chic to them. I attribute this to the color palette and the play of soft light. Hope you are weathering the storm well, and here’s to looking forward to some gentle rays of light later this week. Be well!

A few weeks ago Michael and I had a great date night that started at Cadaqués in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Tapas is my absolute favorite cuisine, and this Catalonian-style restaurant offered many varieties of small plates, even for vegetarians like us. Cadaqués felt cozy and welcoming with it’s rustic interiors and friendly waitstaff. The food was excellent, perhaps the best tapas I have eaten. Our favorite dishes included the Plato de Verduras and Ensalada de Cabra. And there were plenty of options for what to drink. Finally, though very full, we could not pass up the chance at dessert. We had a Catalan specialty of toast grilled with chocolate sauce and served with vanilla ice cream. Really delicious! Hope you can make it out there soon!
This was a quiet week. Quiet comes when you need it I suppose. We sorted through piles in the office and stepped back to think about new avenues of creativity for the design business and this here blog.
Currently on my radar? Rustic design style is all the rage with the advent of fall. I’ve been really looking at the bones of this style and feel there are several permutations. We will be doing a feature on my personal favorite version of rustic next week. It’ll be a surprise.
Shown here on today’s Instagram, is a great design book Handcrafted Modern, which takes you through the development of clean-lined modern rustic looks. This piece of rustic feeling pottery touches on my love of all things turquoise, which I have been indulging of late. And finally, my new tribal print scarf. I absolutely love the pattern and the way it looks when worn. It has a sprinkle of metallic fiber thrown in too. This scarf is my reply to the leopard print trend. I’m going to have to pass, but I can find my own way to get black and white pattern in my look. Wish you all stay safe should Sandy hit your shores. Have a great weekend!
I never look perfectly put together. A long time ago I decided to own it. All my favorite outfits have some slouchy or more casual elements combined with dressier ones. Here the overall look is a tad disheveled, however the pieces show an appreciation of fine fabrics and tailoring, with perfectly cut pants, cashmere sweater jacket, and fine cotton blouse. Jewelry and shoes add the right bit of snap so people can think, “hmm…I guess she did put her outfit together this way on purpose.” What’s the look that you own?
p.s. Can you recognize the piece we carried over from last week? The blouse was here. Also, shoes and necklace previously seen here.
